FOOTPRINT CHARTS, EXPLAINED

What is a footprint chart — and why does order flow matter?

Straight answers, no jargon. If you're new to order flow, liquidation clusters, or order-book wall reading, start here.

What is a footprint chart?

A footprint chart is a candlestick chart where every price level inside every candle shows exactly how much volume was bought versus sold there — not just the open, high, low, and close.

On a normal chart, a candle just tells you price went up. On a footprint chart, you can see whether it went up on strong buying, or on thin volume with almost no resistance — two very different situations that look identical on a regular chart.

What is order flow trading?

Order flow trading means reading the actual buy and sell transactions and resting orders in the market as they happen, instead of relying only on price and indicators calculated from price after the fact.

Price is the result. Order flow is the cause. A footprint chart, live order-book depth, and volume delta are the standard tools for reading it directly.

What is a liquidation cluster, and why does it matter?

When a lot of leveraged positions get forced-closed near the same price level in a short window, that's a liquidation cluster. It matters because forced closes are not voluntary — they add real, involuntary volume to the market, and clusters often precede or accompany a sharp move.

Tracking where clusters form — and where they later clear — is one of the more statistically consistent signals in Footprint Pro's own scorecard, because it's measuring something that actually happened, not a prediction.

How is a footprint chart different from a regular candlestick chart?

A candlestick only encodes four numbers per period: open, high, low, close. A footprint chart keeps the volume traded at every individual price level within that period, split into buy and sell.

That's the difference between knowing price moved, and knowing exactly where the fight happened and who was winning it.

What is an order-book wall, and how do you tell a real one from bait?

A wall is an unusually large resting order at one price. Some walls are genuine support or resistance from someone willing to defend that level. Others are bait — pulled the instant price gets close, meant to influence other traders without ever being filled.

The only reliable way to tell them apart is behavior over time: does the wall get hit and refilled (real), or does it vanish and reappear elsewhere the moment price approaches (bait)? A single snapshot of the order book can't tell you this — you need to watch it.

Do I need trading experience to use this?

Some. Footprint Pro assumes you already understand basic candlestick charts and futures trading. If you're brand new to trading, this tool will be overwhelming before it's useful — learn the basics first, then come back.

If you already trade futures and want to see what's actually happening in the order book instead of guessing from price alone, this is built for you.

Which exchanges and assets does it cover?

Live data merged from 12 exchanges including Binance, OKX, Bybit, MEXC, and more, across BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, BNB, LINK, and AVAX.

Is this financial advice?

No. Footprint Pro is a market-observation tool. It shows you what's happening in the order book and recent trades; it does not tell you what to do. Every signal on the scorecard shows its own sample size and statistical confirmation status so you can judge it yourself — trading futures carries real risk of loss.
